The Garmet: Placket shirts, also known as polo's, sport shirts, and golf shirts, are some of the most popular garments in the promotional products industry as their acceptance as a staple of corporate casual dress has skyrocketed in recent years. Fabric usually consists of 50/50 or 100% cotton in a variety of knits. Here are some considerations to help you choose the right shirt for showcasing your logo:

Pique Knit is a tightly woven mesh fabric, giving the shirt a textured surface. Because of the rough surface, pique is usually best decorated with embroidery rather than screen printing.
Jersey Knit has a texture much the same as a T-shirt. The smooth surface makes it ideal for screen printing or embroidery.
Interlock Knit also provides a smooth surface, but it is achieved by knitting together (interlocking) two pieces of fabric to create a heavier, more luxurious feel.

If image and fashion are your primary considerations, you will do well to choose a higher end 100% cotton shirt. If utility is as important as fashion, 50/50 blends are an excellent choice.

The Process: The craft of embroidery has rocketed into the computer age, and the equipment used to recreate your logo in thread is very efficient and high tech.

Prices for embroidery are determined by the number of stitches required to execute a design and are usually quoted as a cost per 1000 stitches. The number of colors in your design usually does not impact the cost of the job as it does in screen printing.
